What I’ve Learned About Bullying with Michael D. Cohen
After nearly 100 conversations about bullying, confidence, resilience, and the experiences that shape us, I’ve learned a lot. But I’ve also learned that I don’t have all the answers.
For this special episode of Breaking Bullying, I sit down with my friend, actor, writer, director, and educator Michael D. Cohen for a different kind of conversation.
Instead of focusing on one bullying story, Michael and I explore some of the biggest lessons and questions that have stayed with me throughout this podcast.
We talk about the importance of human connection, why having even one person who truly sees you can change your life, and the ripple effect we can have on others without ever realizing it.
We also discuss confidence, what it means to truly listen to someone who is struggling, why curiosity can be more powerful than judgment, and something I personally needed to hear: helping someone doesn’t always mean having the answer. Sometimes helping them find the right question is more important.
Michael also shares his perspective on bullying behavior, why the person doing the bullying may be struggling too, and why understanding the complexity of people doesn’t mean excusing harmful behavior.
This conversation reminded me that after all these episodes, there is still more to learn.
If there is one thing I hope you take away from this episode, it’s this: be that one person for someone. Listen. Ask questions. Let them know they’re seen. You may never know the difference you make.
